I am Sofia Hapsi, author of the book “Evochia Lemnos”, a book that came about as a natural result of my life and my journey in my place, the journey through its flavors and aromas.I was born and raised in Lemnos. A special memory from my childhood on the island, is the first food I cooked together with my sister, fried potatoes with eggs and lettuce salad,when I was only 9 years old. Cooking for me has always been my refuge and refuge in my anxieties, insomnia and difficult moments, since, in order to escape, I would think aboutwhat ingredients I had available and draw up recipes in my mind.At the same time, I observed and asked the women of the family at first, and then those whom I met on the street,about the ingredients they used, their secret recipes, the baking hours.

I am Sofia Hapsi, author of the book “Evochia Lemnos”, a book that came about as a natural result of my life and my journey in my place, the journey through its flavors and aromas.I was born and raised in Lemnos. A special memory from my childhood on the island, is the first food I cooked together with my sister, fried potatoes with eggs and lettuce salad,when I was only 9 years old. Cooking for me has always been my refuge and refuge in my anxieties, insomnia and difficult moments, since, in order to escape, I would think aboutwhat ingredients I had available and draw up recipes in my mind.At the same time, I observed and asked the women of the family at first, and then those whom I met on the street,about the ingredients they used, their secret recipes, the baking hours. A path that I traveled in parallel with my main professional occupations and my family obligations.The book arose from the idea, the need, to bequeath all this valuable material I had collected to the younger generations. “Evochia Lemnos” is a cookbook and more,divided into the four seasons of the year, so that young people who want to cook know what ingredients they can find fresh in each season.  In addition to the carefully selected recipes, I emphasized the special products of my island, starting with flour, which is the pillar of our food, and creatively utilizing the giftsof the sea that our island richly offers, salt, meat from sheep and goats that graze in the endless meadows with the rich flora sprinkled with the alysachni brought by the sea,the local cheeses, green and dry, and of course, the edible grasses that grow in the meadows of our island. Of course, something important would be missingif I didn’t add the joy of sweetness with the traditional sweets of Lemnos. In each recipe one will find symbols that guide the reader to choose what to cookaccording to his eating habits, as he can choose recipes for vegan or vegetarian or suitable for periods of fasting, but also others that can be cooked all year round. time.I hope you will find within the pages of my book, the pure tastes and smells of my childhood in Lemnos and above all the deliciousness of life in this blessed place.
